Thug Life: Ten Bizarre College Courses We Actually Want to Take

While your degree in Science probably gives you some rights to brag, well, sadly it’s unlikely to raise any eyebrows. I guess if you study Harry Potter, however.
Whether you’re taking up your last semester, or your last grading in high school and starting to think what course you should take, or maybe you just scrolling down your mouse thinking “Ugh! Back to school again!” well you should see these unusual courses offered at colleges and universities worldwide.

10.Digital and Social Media
Leeds Trinity University

We are all devoted in Facebook, how about a degree in it? In UK, Leeds Trinity University offer a course about the significance and the philosophical implications of social media. Plus, taking part in a 12-week work experience placement in a digital agency. Well, it’s just an actual degree and with a wobbling 91% employment or further study rate after university.

9.     Baking Technology Management
London South Bank University

If you fancy yourself as the next Mary Berry or Paul Hollywood, then this two-year course will teach you such things as artisan chocolate and bread technology. This degree will help you develop the skills to become a highly successful baking technologist. You will develop specialist managerial skills, which are linked to the commercial and technological aspects of the baking profession.

Yes! There’s more to a cake than eating it!

8.    Sexual Health Studies
University of Central Lancashire

It is said to be the first in United Kingdom, the Sexual Health Studies course might cause a few awkward conversations with your folks but it is a great shout for those who are looking for a career in sexual health services.

Includes cultural and sociological perspectives of sexuality design and delivery of sex and relationship education and global perspectives of sexual health.

7.     Surf Science and Technology
Cornwall College

Your wave is waiting! In this 2-year course, you’ll learn about the history and development of surf, as well as practical modules in how to build a dynamic surf board, and, of course, catch the perfect wave.

The course also looks at the psychology of surfing success; exploring human’s relationship to fitness, and allowing students to undertake work experience in a surf-related company.

6.     Ethical Hacking
University of Abertay Dundee

Yeah I know, sounds cool. From questions about how hackers break into computers, to how to solve security issues, this course will teach you everything you need to know about computer hacking today.

5.     Theater Practice and Puppetry

If your childhood dream is to hang out with Bert and Ernie, then this course is for you!

Training for the future Muppets, this course is a specialist study area of theatre practice which has a reputation for its graduates going on to work among brilliant institutions such as Cirque du Soleil, the London Symphony Orchestra, performing shadow puppet workshops and puppeteering at Thorpe Park.

Ya know, Cirque du Soleil seems like the dream destination man!

4.     Viticulture and Oenology
Plumpton College

Cheers for that! A course that teaches you all about the science of grape growing and wine-making, and is said to set you right up for a career in wine production.

While some graduates have gone on to be vineyard managers, wine makers and much more, if you still can’t get enough you can even go on to do an MA and a PhD.

3.     Education Studies
Durnham University

Alright, so Education Studies might not sound like the most interesting thing on this list, but I’m using that picture for a reason. Just skip ahead to your second year of study and you’ll discover the wonders of Harry Potter and the Age of Illusion.

Now, you don’t know about everyone else but you would love to study Harry Potter! The module has gone for a really interesting look at Harry Potter in a social, cultural and education context too, rather than your standard literature one.

2.     Yacht Operations

Yeah I can’t promise you’ll get to a super cool yacht party all the time, but this course will teach you how to navigate, maintain a boat and give you on offshore expeditions.

You can even branch out to sailing and powerboats too, and once you’ve finished the two-year foundation degree, there’s the option to top it up to a BA.

If you’ve thought about a career in the maritime industry before, this might be well for you.

1.      The Beatles, Popular Music and Society
Liverpool Hope University

Yes! Last would never be the least, possibly the coolest MA course ever! During this course, you’ll study the influence of The Beatles on identity, culture and industries, in their very birthplace in Liverpool. The curriculum includes cultural discourses surrounding The Beatles, as well as study into post-WWII history, music semiotics and issues of Merseyside (metropolitan county in North West England).

People might give you a hard time for studying such cool things, but I say… Let it be.

It’s easy to laugh off unusual degrees, but you never know where they could get you. Although they are cliche, you could stand a better chance of a job after finishing it, well maybe you don’t need to compete with a large amount of graduates. I think I should leave you of this saying I guess I heard from one of my terror professors, “Make your passion your profession.”
