LOVE ART. LOVE TO BE GREEN.

Along with the upcoming celebration of Valentine’s Day, February also marks the grand opening of National Arts Month in the country. With this year’s theme “Malikhain, Mapagbago. Filipino”   National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA) organized activities, events and presentations to show how art has and will continue to serve as a catalyst of change.

TURN THE LIGHT OFF

It seems like a no-brainer, but people often forget to switch off the light when they walk out of a room. Turning off the lights when they are not in use can help save energy and cut down your electricity bill. The type of bulb also matters. Incandescent lights and halogens are the less efficient one and releases more heat than others. CFL or Compact Fluorescent lamps on the other hand is the improved version of its predecessors. However, the frequency of it being switch on and off lessens its life span that is why the new LED lightning technology becomes the top choice among consumers. Apart from its cost-effectiveness, LED’s when turn on instantly set to full brightness and are largely unaffected by vibrations. Great deals isn’t it? Also it would be greater if you do keep in mind this general rule from our energy department. If you’ll be out of the room for 15 minutes or less , leave the lights on but if you’d go more than that, turning if off would definitely count.

DON’T BE TRASHY, RECYCLE.
The average person generates 4.3 pounds of waste per day that equates out to around 220 million tons of trash a year. Among this are plastic bags we often get from buying groceries, snacks or even used as an alternative lunch box. So next time you throw out that old cell phone or florescent light bulb, ask yourself: Is this recyclable? Or when visiting your fave shopping store, it would be best to bring along a reusable or personalized bag as a greener substitute.
For more information, watch the short video animation entitled Save the World. It talks about general details about how can you take part in making a difference for our Earth and for ourselves.

WE SAY NO TO ARTIFICIAL LAND, WATER AND AIR!

Have showers rather than baths. Turn the faucet when not in use. Recycle used water from your weekend’s laundry or might as well avoid wasting that single glass of refreshments and try watering it instead on a tree pot nearby. Remember every drop counts.  We may be able to buy clean drinking waters at a reasonable price today but if wastage continues be prepared to allocate half of your monthly budget for just an access to clean water.

Here’s a short video to show you how to start saving.

LESSER MEAT FOR A BODY THAT IS FIT

New reason why we should lessen our meat consumption. Aside from the health benefits, trying out a “Meatless Mondays” at home would help cut down the need for livestock, thus reducing the amount of nitrous oxide produced by their waste and the greenhouse gasses that go along with it. This makes a huge impact on our planet because nitrous oxide is even worse than carbon dioxide. Whether Meatless Mondays, Tuesdays, Saturdays or any day that you like, that effort could go a long way already for your health and pro-environment goals this 2017.

These are just few of the simple ways that any of us can do as stewards of these precious Earth beauties. Like the campaign posters, videos, song compositions and many other art works out there, let us all give our share whether small or big, or in any form it may be, believe me friends, it all matters to Mother Earth.
