Acing
your subjects while slayin' your social and private life isn't easy. Some may
adhere more to their acads while others to the latter. While it is true that
most of us are trying their best to perform well in school, we cannot deny the
fact that we also have other needs to feel that we're actually
"alive."
This
2017, it's not surprising to know that one of our New Year's resolutions is to
excel in school while enjoying life in general by managing time wisely. The key
to achieve this is to manage things that "distract" us in doing the
important ones. We're so busy trying to cope with the social standards but we are
actually crumbling in achieving our main goal. It's because somehow we allowed
these distractions devour our system or, to use the term of the millenials,
"nilamon ng sistema."
Here's
the list of the millenial distractions and some tips on how to utilize them to
your benefit.

#SocialNetworkingSites
Like,
share, post, and tweet - we millenials spend a LOT of time using not just one,
but instead three or more social networking sites! Not only did we use them for
posting real time updates, but it's also the channel to communicate with our
block mates and professors regarding school tasks. Truly, SNS developers did
great in their jobs to the point that we cannot live our lives efficiently
without these sites.
However,
SNS is considered as the notorious time-killer and distraction when it comes to
studying. For instance, have you promised yourself to just go to Facebook for a
few minutes to check group project updates but ended up stalking your crush for
an hour? Your answer is the reason why SNS is on the top of our list.
Tips:
1. Set a fixed number of
time you think you'll use SNS in a day. You may use SNS any time of the day but
you must "budget" it within the fixed number of time you allotted.
2. When doing projects and
using SNS isn't necessary, turn off your WiFi or do not register to any mobile
data promos because the thought of "Sayang pera ko sa pagpapa-load, ubusin
ko muna" is definitely where the distraction begin.
3. When you can't rid of
using SNS, surrender your gadget to a person who you knew to be strict when it
comes in managing time - it may be your best friend or your parents - and claim
it once you're done with your school works.
#Pag-yo-YOLO YOLO (You Only Live Once)
or YOLO-ing
may have a wide-range of definition depending on how an individual do what they
enjoy the most. Most of the students YOLO by simply watching unlimited TV
series, Koreanovelas, and movies like there's no tomorrow. There's nothing wrong
with YOLO-ing as long as we take our school works on top of our priorities, BUT
most of the time, it ends up the other way around.
Tips:
1. As much as possible, avoid putting your
movie files in your laptop or any device you use when doing school works. This
will somehow delay your movie cravings.
2. Follow the strict
"One episode for every accomplished task" policy. This will keep you
motivated to get the job done because you have something to look forward to -
and that's an episode from your fave TV Series or K-drama.
#Organization
There are different types of students. One of them are students
who devote their time and effort to school organizations together with their
academic loads all at the same time.
Dedicating
your time and effort in organizations and your acads is very difficult. While
some can manage their time well in both areas, most of them experienced
burn-outs and health problems which hinders them to do more. For some, they
ended-up unfocused despite of their academic potentials because of
time-management failure.
1. Limit the organization
you want to join.
2. Make your orgmates your
study buddies.
3. Be honest to them. If
you need laser-focus for your exam, tell them that assign easy tasks for you.
I'm sure they'll understand.
The
aforementioned tips will just remain tips unless you'll use them. If you want
to make your own technique of utilizing these distractions for your benefit,
then do so. At the end of the day, you're the one in-charge of your destiny.
