The Philippines
is known for its early Christmas celebration. Once the ‘-ber’ months kick in,
an exciting Christmas countdown will start. Filipino families start to decorate
and fill their houses with different decorations. Streets become so lively at
night for the lights are beaming with different colors and winks at you like
fireflies. Nights begin to start as early as five and also cold as you drive. And
because we are talking about the ‘Paskong Pinoy,’ food is one of the important
highlights of the celebration. Different dishes are served on the table and we
enjoy it with the important persons around us—our family.
Once the party is over, food leftover
is the issue that you need to deal with and don’t you worry now because this
one is for you. Even you, my friend, can do this. This recipe will help you
deal with the leftovers and at the same time, a very ‘Pinoy’ taste that will
satisfy your cravings without spending again that much.
The Fried Ham and Cheese Roll is one of the easy and affordable recipes because we
will not buy lots of ingredients, just the leftover bread slices and ham from
the Christmas celebration. You can serve it in just minutes. And because of
this, you can have your post-Christmas celebration with your friends and loved
ones.
To get started, we need the
bread slices that are about to expire in few more days and also the ham that is
left inside the fridge. You may add cheese and bread crumbs for the additional
crunchiness.
First thing that we need to do
is to lay down the bread slices and press it with your palm so that the bread
will not absorb the oil while getting fried. Next, arrange the ham and cheese
on the bread slices and roll it until the fillings are covered; then secure it
using a toothpick. Then, dip the rolled bread in beaten egg and after that,
cover it with bread crumbs for the crunchy taste.
Now, let’s move to the cooking
and serving phase. The frying of the ham and cheese rolls only takes seven
minutes and it is so much fun to do. First, apply only low to medium heat when
frying so that the bread crumbs would not brown right away and also this will
give you the best, crunchy feeling when eating the roll. After you fry each of
them, place them on paper towels so that the oil is sucked. You may slice it
into smaller pieces and serve it as an appetizer or as snack. For an added
flavor, mix ketchup with mayonnaise and put in a small saucer. This will surely
enjoy by your loved ones.
Christmas celebration and other
sort of celebrations do not have to be expensive. What is more important is
that we prepared it to our special ones with full of effort. That’s what makes
it so remarkable and memorable to them. So in this upcoming Christmas and New
Year celebrations, let us spend most of our precious time with them and remember
to cherish the moments. The true essence of the most wonderful season of the
year is not represented by gifts and money but the time and love that we share
to the ones that need it.
